Photopedagogy

“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.”
Dorothea Lange

Building a conscious and active perspective on global challenges is essential today. That is why I work in a committed way with people and the environment through art and photography, understood not only as a visual language, but as a tool of knowledge and a bridge of action with reality.

The origin of this journey stems from collaboration on various socio-cultural projects in Sweden, Chile, France and Germany (2016–2018). During this period I worked with war refugees and people at risk of social exclusion.

Faced with cultural and linguistic diversity, I explore the uses of the image as a space for dialogue and as a tool for integration in complex contexts. It is here that I begin to develop research on photography as a resilient tool in working with children and young people.

In 2018 I presented to the UOC the work “How to develop a resilient attitude through photography? Proposal for a photopedagogical method” , which establishes the bases of the Construïm Mirades project. A collective founded with Oriol Segon and with the collaboration of Xènia Gasull, with whom we develop projects in educational and cultural centers in Catalonia between 2017 and 2020.

At the same time, I offer photographic dynamics in projects in creation and work with various collectives. This journey also leads me to question the sustainability of the photographic medium and to delve deeper into the study of the photosensitivity of plants.

Later, the link with the performing arts opened up new paths for me to expand photography into other artistic languages. From here, proposals were born that integrate body, image and action as spaces for shared learning.

I offer photographic practices as spaces for interaction between people and the environment with the aim of:

  • Stimulate perception and imagination
  • Learn to observe and understand reality through visual language
  • Explore individual and collective memory
  • Activate creative research processes
  • Promote a critical and conscious view of oneself and the world.

I accompany creative processes: I identify each person’s areas of interest, recognize and enhance their capabilities, and generate participatory practices that help build their own perspective, turning the unexpected into a learning space.

The fundamentals that define the way we work are:

Work with values
Practicing values through collective, multicultural and intergenerational work, to learn about multiple ways of understanding the world.

Creative research
Place learning in the research process, stimulating curiosity and critical thinking.

Photographic practices
To raise awareness of the gaze through photography as a tool for experimentation between people and the environment.

Integrative learning
Link other artistic languages to stimulate the senses, the body and emotions, facilitating a deep integration of knowledge.
